The programme will be recorded in June
THE WATER'S EDGE IS to host bbc songs of praise programme
APRIL 1, 2017
The BBC has today announced that Newark riverside bar and kitchen The Water’s Edge will host the Songs of Praise programme in June on BBC One
The announcement follows a lengthy period of application that saw the bar’s owners having to decide on amendments to hymns to fit the setting. Hymns will include ‘Drink, Jesus, Drink’, ‘Be Thou My Beer Vision’ and ‘Ave Tia Maria’. The opening hymn will be ‘Imbibe With Me’.
2 for £10 cocktails will be on hand for all participants of the programme, including a specially devised ‘Mary’s Tipple’. A delicious Argentinian Malbec will be on offer for those preferring a more traditional beverage.
A BBC spokesperson, Joe King, said he thought the programme would bring lots of people to Newark. “When selecting the location for this edition of Songs of Praise we were struck by how beautiful this setting is. You can’t find a better bar in Newark than this one - particularly in the Summer.”
“We truly believe that Songs of Praise needs to be modernised, and so mixing it with fantastic cocktails and this amazing setting really sets it on course to be the new X Factor,” he said.
Anyone wanting to join the programme can apply by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org with a few lines about why you want to be in the show and a video proving your singing ability.
The programme will be aired some time in the harvest.
